DIVINATION JEWELRY - Burkina Faso - Senufo Late 19th – early 20th century. Copper alloy (copper and brass), dark and rough patina. Dimensions: Diameter 5.5 cm; weight: 49 g. The two figurines side by side embody dualism and the balance between male and female, a fundamental theme in Senufo cosmology. They watch over the wearer and serve as a bridge to the spirit world. These ritual jewelry pieces are worn exclusively by the female members of the secret society known as Sandogo.
