[TOULOUSE]. HISTORY OF THE PARLIAMENT OF TOULOUSE. No place, no publisher. Three parts bound together in a sturdy large quarto volume in ivory half-vellum with corner pieces, smooth spine, and a title label in long-grain garnet morocco (20th-century binding); (4) blank folios, (1) title folio, 24 pp., 97–120 pp., 73–96 pp., 49–72 pp., 25–48 pp., 121–320 pp. - (1) title folio, 70 pp., 77–82 pp., 71–76 pp., 83–398 pp. — 68 pp., 85–180 pp., (2) blank folios. A few pagination errors and reversed folios, but no missing folios. IMPORTANT ANONYMOUS MANUSCRIPT in 3 parts (320, 398, and 180 pages) and 13 books, totaling nearly 900 pages, with numerous notes and additions in the side margins. The manuscript begins with the establishment of the Parliament of Toulouse: “The administration of justice had, as early as the fourth century, taken on a regular and majestic form in the city of Toulouse; this was the work of the Romans: it is known that their policy was to introduce their language, their customs, and their laws into the province that their arms had subjugated. […]” and continues through 1643, concluding as follows: “Such was the destiny of Louis XIV that everything pertaining to his reign was to take on a character of perfection, grandeur, and immortality. End of Book Thirteen. ” A ruled manuscript, written in the 19th century in black ink in an elegant and highly legible hand on beautiful, sturdy, shaped vellum. The only “History of the Parliament of Toulouse” published in the 19th century is that of Jean-Baptiste DUBÉDAT (1823–1901), published in 1885 in two volumes; the text of that edition does not correspond to that of the present manuscript, which therefore appears to be unpublished. From the LIBRARY of the Marquis DADVISARD, with a heraldic bookplate pasted to the inside front cover.
