83 - Leica History - Jesse Owens Leica 'R4 Golden Anniversary Camera' Negative, an original strip of 3 images on a 35mm of Jesse Owens, one of which was used in the Leica R4 Golden Anniversary Camera outfit. The negative strip comes with several contact prints and enlargements, as the original strip is damaged. This collection includes a letter from Karl Kleinen (of Leitz) to Geoffrey Tucjer (of Eastman Kodak) which transposes as follows: "Dear Jeoffrey: Attached is the following material to help with the reconstruction of the two damaged negatives: 1.) Contact strip of the three Jesse Owens Negatives. 2.) Copy negative of the first damaged negative. (Jesse) 3.) Copy negative of the second damaged negative. (Group) 4.) 6x8" mounted enlargement from first negative. Sorry, I do not have any positive of the second negative (Group). We appreciate anything you can do to speed up this process, as the negatives have now been with kodak for four months. Sincerely, Karl Kleinen" All of this content is housed in an Intra-Company Correspondence document with the following text upon it: "Geoff Tucker #10096 28th Jan 93 Geoff - I know you probably don't want to see this again but...... It come back into sight while I was cleaning up my office. Enjoy! Fred Shappy" Note: A 5% import VAT applies to this lot for UK bidders only.
