Box 5916 - Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 LETTER OF PROVENANCE I, Bill Rosauer, am the Editor of The Viewfinder, the quarterly journal of Leica Society International, a post I have held since 2000. I was the President of the Leica Historical Society of America (LHSA) during the years 1998 to 2000, and am currently the President Emeritus of the Leica Society International. During the years 1996 to present, I have been responsible for conceiving and commissioning all of the Special Edition cameras and lenses which Leica AG in Solms, Germany and lately in Wetzlar, Germany, produced on behalf of the LHSA. The year 2003 marked the 35th anniversary of the Leica Historical Society of America and the Hammertone finish was chosen for the new LHSA MP Leica limited edition. Along with the camera, a retrostyled 35/2 Summicron ASPH lens resembling the original eight-element Summicron in chrome finish on brass was specified with a grey Hammertone lens shade, and a Hammertone Leicavit completed the set. The back of the camera, the Leicavit and the lens were engraved with the LHSA logo. One thousand units of this special edition were made. Leica MP Hammertone serial number 3001032 was given by the Leica AG factory in Solms, Germany to Dr. Richard Santee, LHSA President during the years 2002-2004, during the time of the Society’s 35th anniversary. I knew Dr. Santee and can confirm that the special personal engraving on the back of the camera’s Hammertone top plate was made by the Leica factory expressly for Dr. Santee. Sadly, Dr. Santee passed away in 2022. Sincerely, Bill Rosauer Bill Rosauer Editor, The Viewfinder Buffalo Grove, Illinois May 6, 2025" Note: A 5% import VAT applies to this lot for UK bidders only. International buyers are exempt from this charge if the lot is exported within three months of the sale date.
