ULYSSE NARDIN - “Calatrava” wristwatch (late 1950s). Automatic movement. Gold-plated steel case, 35 mm in diameter (gross weight: 45.89 grams). Silver-toned dial featuring applied gold baton hour markers and bearing the inscriptions “ULYSSE NARDIN AUTOMATIC” and “SWISS,” central seconds hand, gold alpha-shaped hands, domed Plexiglas crystal. Steel case back, fluted crown. Black leather strap with attached pin buckle. Watch was in working condition at the time of appraisal. Showing signs of wear (numerous micro-scratches on the watch and its Plexiglas). It was in Le Locle, in 1846, that Ulysse Nardin founded the company bearing his name. His marine chronometers earned a reputation for precision at a time when the exact measurement of time was essential for navigation. This specialty remained at the heart of the company’s history for a long time. More than a century after its inception, however, the brand set out on new paths: in 2001, the “Freak” unveiled an unconventional mechanical architecture that incorporated silicon. Combining navigational instruments with bold watchmaking innovations, Ulysse Nardin has forged an identity in which tradition never precludes experimentation. Specific Terms of Sale: Please note that all watches are sold “as is.” No warranty is provided regarding the watch’s operating condition; therefore, a service is recommended. Some watches have been opened to identify the type and quality of the movement, including water-resistant models; therefore, the buyer is advised to consult a watchmaker to have the watch’s water resistance checked.
