VAN GOGH (Vincent). — Catalog of the 1937 International Exhibition. Paris, Éditions Denoël, 1937. Quarto, paperback, cover illustrated with a self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh. Catalog of the exhibition dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh, organized as part of the 1937 Paris International Exposition, Group I, Class III, and published by “L’Amour de l’Art.” An important documentary publication bringing together detailed descriptions of the exhibited works, accompanied by black-and-white reproductions. The descriptions specify, in particular, the dimensions, provenance, collections, and bibliographic references of the paintings. An interesting account of how Van Gogh’s work was received in the 1930s and of the formation of major public and private collections. The cover shows creases, some soiling, and signs of wear.
