SCHMALENBACH (Fritz). — Käthe Kollwitz. Königstein im Taunus, Karl Robert Langewiesche Nachfolger, Hans Köster, n.d. In-4, publisher’s black cardboard binding, cover illustrated with a drawing by Käthe Kollwitz. A monograph devoted to Käthe Kollwitz (1867–1945), a German artist whose graphic work—deeply influenced by the social and human tragedies of her time—occupies a major place in the history of Expressionism. Numerous black-and-white reproductions of drawings, engravings, and woodcuts, notably a Self-Portrait from 1924. The book allows readers to appreciate the expressive power of her work, particularly in her depictions of motherhood, poverty, mourning, and the human condition. A good copy, with some signs of wear on the cover. Bookstore label on the back cover.
