THE JOURNALS OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MODERN ART. — Children’s Drawings. Portraits of Friends (Miscellaneous). Paris, Centre Georges Pompidou, spring 1990. Quarto, paperback, cover illustrated with a sculpture by Alberto Giacometti. Issue No. 31 of the journal *Les Cahiers du Musée national d’art moderne*. A substantial issue devoted in particular to children’s drawings and friendships among artists, bringing together several original essays: Louis Clayeux, “Notes on Alberto Giacometti”; Jessica Boissel, “When Children Began to Draw”; Corinne Pencenat, “Modern Puppets and the Fragmented Painting”; Ludger Derenthal, “Max Ernst: Three Paintings of Friendship.” The issue also includes book reviews, an interview with Martin Barré, and a study on Jacques-Louis Binet’s contemporary works in Parisian hospitals. Numerous black-and-white illustrations throughout the text. An interesting publication for the history of modern art, particularly for studies on Giacometti, Max Ernst, and the recognition of children’s drawings as a form of artistic expression. Good copy, with some signs of wear and slight soiling on the cover.
