DARDEL (Geneviève) — Perspectives on Eskimo Art No place, no publisher, [circa 1962]. Quarto, stapled, gray-blue paper cover, decorated with a mounted photograph and a label bearing the title “Eskimo Art.” Black-and-white photographic illustrations throughout the text and as full-page spreads. A curious publication devoted to Inuit art, focusing in particular on animal sculpture, the artisan’s techniques, tools, and sources of inspiration: human and animal figures, masks, and ivory objects. The text by Geneviève Dardel, “Regards sur l’art esquimau,” originally appeared in *Connaissance du Monde*, No. 40, in March 1962, pp. 19–26; it is properly listed as a general study on Inuit art in the specialized bibliography published by the Canadian government. The copy presented here appears to be a handmade offprint or a compilation of the single article, with a specially crafted cover. The cover design incorporates an old clipping depicting a “curious religious mask of the Alaskan Eskimos on display in Berlin,” annotated 1933. I would err on the side of caution and not present this cover as the publisher’s original without further evidence. Condition: generally good. Cover is slightly faded and pitted, with a few creases and signs of wear; staples are slightly oxidized. Interior is well preserved.
