COTTRELL (Léonard) — Egypt COTTRELL (Léonard). — Egypt. Paris, Arthaud, “Les Beaux Pays” series, no. 75, 1965. Large 8vo / small 4vo, publisher’s binding in salmon-colored cloth, with Egyptian-style design cold-stamped on the front cover, series title on the back cover. 275 pages, 166 illustrations, including 6 full-page color plates and one map. The 1965 French edition is well documented as No. 75 in the “Les Beaux Pays” series. A beautiful, richly illustrated monograph devoted to Egypt, combining history, archaeology, monuments, the arts, and contemporary life. The book covers both Pharaonic and Coptic Egypt as well as modern Egypt: Alexandria, Cairo, the Nile Valley, antiquities, museums, religious architecture, and scenes of daily life. The illustrations, particularly plentiful, include black-and-white photographs, reproductions of artworks, and six full-page color plates, including the one shown here depicting a Coptic work of art. A fine copy in the publisher’s decorated hardcover. The cloth is slightly faded and shows a few minor signs of wear, mainly on the back cover; the corners and caps are still in satisfactory condition. The interior appears fresh based on the photographs. No dust jacket. This edition was normally sold with an illustrated dust jacket; indeed, copies of the Arthaud edition with their dust jackets can be found. This copy includes an autographed inscription.
