ARIKHA (Avigdor). — New York Drawings, January–May 1984. New York, Marlborough Gallery, 1984. An oblong in-4 volume, paperback, with a cover illustrated with a drawing by the artist. Catalog of the exhibition devoted to the New York drawings of Avigdor Arikha (1929–2010), held at the Marlborough Gallery from November 8 to December 4, 1984. The book brings together a selection of drawings executed in New York between January and May 1984, notably portraits and scenes captured on the spot in the New York subway. These works demonstrate Arikha’s graphic virtuosity; his swift and precise line captures the postures, expressions, and physical presence of his subjects with remarkable economy of means. Numerous black-and-white reproductions, including several studies of subway passengers. A good copy, with a few slight signs of wear on the cover and a bookstore label on the back cover.
