In-12, contemporary binding in midnight blue half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with gold fillets, marbled paper covers. An interesting volume published under the auspices of the newly founded Society for the History of France, established in 1833 to promote the critical edition of French historical sources. This yearbook is a valuable reference tool for 19th-century scholars and, in addition to the historical calendar for the year, includes biographical entries, chronological tables, bibliographic references, and various information pertaining to national history. Notably, it includes a substantial section devoted to historical events arranged by date, entries on prominent figures in French history, and an alphabetical index of the ephemeris. A characteristic example of historical scholarship during the July Monarchy, the work illustrates the effort to systematize and disseminate historical knowledge undertaken by the major learned societies of the 19th century. Copy preserved in its original binding. Interior is clean and complete. A few scattered foxing spots and normal browning of the paper. The binding shows signs of wear and has some missing material on the cap bands, as visible in the photographs, though this does not affect the book’s structural integrity.
