FRANCE. National Academy of Sciences, Literature, and Arts of BORDEAUX. Rare member’s insignia in silver-plated and gilded bronze, based on the model created in 1912 by Gaston VEUVENOT LEROUX (1854–1942). Early 20th century. Height: 4.6 cm. The Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature, and Arts of Bordeaux was founded on September 5, 1712, by letters patent from King Louis XIV. Like all other academies, it was dissolved during the Revolution, before being reestablished during the Restoration. An imperial academy during the Second Empire, the Academy received in 1870 the title it still bears today: the National Academy of Sciences, Literature, and Arts of Bordeaux. It was recognized as a public-benefit organization in 1894 (source: the Academy’s website).
