Michael MANN (died c. 1630), Augsburg or Nuremberg. A remarkable casket, unfortunately damaged and incomplete, consisting of a basin on legs, made of gilded brass etched with medallions depicting female saints (Catherine of Alexandria, Mary Magdalene, Barbara of Nicomedia, etc.) or religious scenes (the Nativity, the Baptism of Christ); beneath the basin, a depiction of Saint Martin of Tours (shown wearing a miter on horseback, which is rare and, all things considered, inaccurate since the scene takes place at a time when he was still a Roman legionary), sharing his cloak with a poor man. Of the lid (to be reattached), the backing plate and the remarkable 8-bolt locking mechanism remain (with minor imperfections). Also present is the plaque bearing Michael Mann’s signature. Circa 1600–1620. 10.2 x 6.9 x 5.4 cm (height). Key missing.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
