Enameled promotional thermometer bearing the name of the WETZEL brewery. Art Nouveau design featuring an iris motif. Manufactured by Emaillage coopératif, 34 Boulevard Clichy, Paris. Circa 1900. Height: 100 cm. Some damage, particularly around the mounting holes. The Wetzel Brewery (sometimes spelled Vetzel, to downplay its German-sounding name) operated one of the most famous booths at the 1900 World’s Fair—shaped like a Japanese temple—in the “Around the World” section, on the Champs-de-Mars, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The brewery’s permanent address was 115 Boulevard de Sébastopol in Paris. Today, the brewery has completely disappeared.
