[Turkey] SALABERRY (Charles-Marie d'Irumberry de). History of the Ottoman Empire, from Its Founding to the Peace of Yassi in 1792. Paris, Le Normant, 1813. 4 volumes in-8, contemporary half-basane, plain spine. Leather missing at the top of the spine of vol. I, small tear in the leather patch on vol. II, worm damage to a hinge on vol. IV. Includes the full-size fold-out map by Brué and the large folded genealogical chart. First edition of this important history of the Ottoman Empire, written by Charles-Marie d’Irrumberry, Count of Salaberry (1766–1847), a historian and deputy for the Loir-et-Cher department from 1815 to 1830. The work traces the political and military history of the Ottoman Empire from its founding to the Treaty of Jassy in 1792, which ended the Russo-Turkish War of 1787–1792. Salaberry drew upon the major earlier histories of the Ottoman Empire—which he intended to supplement and correct—as well as on observations gathered during his own travels to Constantinople.
