[BARNAUD (Nicolas)]. *The Morning Call of the French and Their Neighbors*. Composed by Eusèbe Philadelphe Cosmopolite, in the form of dialogues [Followed by:] *Second Dialogue of The Morning Call of the French and Their Neighbors*. Edinburgh [Geneva or Strasbourg], Jacques James, 1574. 2 parts in one in-12 volume, half-shagreen with corner pieces from the second half of the 19th century. (19) ff., (1) blank f., 159 pp.; 192 pp. Title page reattached and stained, slight soiling, last page stained. A rare first joint edition of the two dialogues, published under the pseudonym Eusèbe Philadelphe Cosmopolite and with a fictitious Edinburgh address. The second part appears here for the first time, while the first dialogue had been first published in Latin in 1573. Long attributed to Theodore Beza or François Hotman, this famous Protestant pamphlet is today primarily associated with Nicolas Barnaud, even though its composition appears to be the result of collaboration among several Huguenot authors gathered around Theodore Beza (The BnF specifically mentions Nicolas Barnaud and Hugues Doneau).
