108 - Militaria: Document from the Revolutionary era: A handwritten military letter signed by Jacques Aimard de Moreton, Count of Chabrillan (1729–1802), dated July 5, 1791, from Paris. Jacques Aimard de Moreton, Count of Chabrillan, Lieutenant General and commander of the 2nd Military Division, acknowledges receipt of the status report on his correspondent’s squadron. He expresses his great satisfaction with the “good news regarding its conduct and the good discipline that continues to prevail there.” In a postscript (P.S.), he gives instructions regarding the routing of his future correspondence (“You will address me henceforth…”).This letter perfectly illustrates the reorganization of the French army at the start of the Revolution, immediately following the reform of January 1791 that established the 21 military divisions. An ideal document for any collector of militaria from the Ancien Régime and the Revolution, the history of the cavalry, or autograph documents from senior officers.
