A superb and deeply moving set consisting of two original silver gelatin prints taken during a studio portrait session at the time of victory. These precious historical documents immortalize four young soldiers from the 1st French Army posing playfully and in a spirit of camaraderie in single file.The soldiers are wearing summer combat uniforms and regulation caps. On their left sleeves, the original diamond-shaped insignia characteristic of the Liberation troops (Rhine and Danube) is clearly visible. One of the two photographs bears on the reverse a magnificent and historic handwritten inscription from that era, written in blue ink.
