WALTER KNOLL (Published by) "Vostra 607" low armchair with a straight, slanted backrest. Tapered legs in black-stained wood, slightly flared. Upholstered in beige ribbed wool fabric. Model created in 1949 H 77 cm – W 52 cm – D 74 cm - History: The “Vostra” is based on a small beechwood armchair with straps designed by Jens Risom, whose drawing was sent to his father by Hans Knoll, the son of Walter Knoll who had emigrated to the United States. Walter Knoll reworked it by replacing the straps with an upholstered shell: this variant, model number 607, went into production in 1949 and became a major success for the company. Risom’s webbed version was in turn produced in Herrenberg in 1954 under reference number 601. Walter Knoll still produces the “Vostra 607.” - Bibliography: Bernd Polster, “Walter Knoll. The Furniture Brand of Modernity,” Kempen, teNeues, 2019; model reproduced on p. 132.
