Contemporary half-basane leather bindings in bronze, smooth spines, gilt fillets. - Well-used copy: slightly stretched hinges; foxing and a few scattered stains; one section loose in Volume I. Second, expanded edition (the first edition, published by Goubaud and Olivier, consisted of only one volume). 2 frontispieces; 19 steel engravings; 3 colored lithographs. Illustrations by Beaucé; Bellangé; Jules David; Lemud; Popelin; etc., engraved by various artists. (Vicaire I, col. 25 for the single-volume edition).
