(19th-century binding). - Slight scuffing and some discoloration on the binding, scattered small foxing spots, light stain on the title page (discoloration caused by a bookmark). Engraved frontispiece in intaglio, showing the duke in an alcove, gazing at two cradles. The Duke of Roquelaure (1617–1676), nicknamed “the ugliest man in France,” nevertheless enjoyed a strong popular reputation as a jester, cheerful and obscene. It also belongs to the Bibliothèque Bleue (Nisard I, 231—Oberlé, Cat. 20, describes prints from Rouen and Evreux, early 19th century).
