Text in two columns: Latin and French. André-Marie-Jean-Jacques Dupin is a celebrated figure from the Nièvre region. Born in Varzy in 1783, he attended the Paris School of Law, was admitted to the bar in 1800, and earned his doctorate in law in 1802. Dupin published numerous legal works and earned a reputation as a learned jurist and a skilled attorney. During the Hundred Days, he was elected to the Chamber of Representatives for the Château-Chinon district. After the Second Restoration, he rose to prominence by arguing political cases. He defended Marshal Ney and other prominent soldiers of the Empire, as well as newspaper editors and writers prosecuted for crimes of opinion. In 1827, he re-entered politics. He was elected deputy for Mamers and then reelected in the Nièvre department in 1830. Close to Louis-Philippe, he served as Minister without Portfolio and later as Attorney General at the Court of Cassation. He was re-elected as a deputy for Nièvre without interruption until 1851. Dupin presided over the National Assembly from 1832 to 1840 and from 1849 to 1851. After the coup d’état of December 2, he resigned from his post as Attorney General. In 1857, he aligned himself with the regime, which allowed him to resume his duties, which he held until his death in Paris in 1865. - Author’s bibliography at the end of the text.
