Louis Hendrix (Peer 1827 – Antwerp 1888) Christ Meets the Virgin on the Way to Calvary Oil on canvas 64.5 x 84.5 cm The painting bears a brush signature in the lower left corner: “L. HENDRIX”. Antwerp Cathedral houses a remarkable cycle of fourteen large Stations of the Cross, painted between 1864 and 1868 by the Belgian artists Louis Hendrix and Frans Vinck, who each created seven canvases. This signed canvas is most likely the model for the fourth Station of the Cross, which Louis Hendrix presented to the commissioners.
