known as Baciccio (Genoa 1639 – Rome 1709) Portrait of Eleonora Boncompagni Borghese Oil on copper 14 x 10 cm. Framed Francesco Petrucci lists three portraits by Baciccio identified as Eleonora Boncompagni Borghese (1642–1695), niece of Pope Gregory XIII and wife of Giovan Battista Borghese, Prince of Sulmona. This copper plate is a miniature version of the larger canvas, which was offered at Christie’s, London, in 1999 and subsequently sold at Finarte, Rome, in 2006. The two versions are closely related, with minor variations in the flowers and, in particular, in the sitter’s more elaborate hairstyle in this work. F. PETRUCCI, Baciccio: Giovan Battista Gaulli; 1639–1709, Rome 2009, A62, p. 427. W. Apolloni Gallery, Rome; private collection, Rome.
