Cup with Samson and Delilah Goblet with Samson and Delilah, Middle German, c. 1740. Ascending disc base with a tear-off and downturned edge. An air bubble has been pierced in the articulated stem. On the bell-shaped cup, which is partially polished, is an ornamental cartouche depicting Samson and Delilah, with the Philistines in the background. Inscription on the reverse: “Love is a beautiful thing in this world; love is better than money. Love only with caution; otherwise, you will reap scorn and ridicule as your reward.” H. 22.5 cm
