Georges BENAYOUN, known as GERGIO (Algiers, 1938). Six portraits of women, including two on sheet music. Mixed media on paper. Signed. 29 x 20 cm (on average) Introduced to the visual arts by his uncle Farrous Friedman, he rubbed shoulders with the world of painters at the Place du Tertre, became one of Utrillo’s models, and earned a degree in patternmaking. An art lover, he began painting, and his main sources of inspiration were women—particularly those at the “Moulin Rouge”—whom he depicted with realism, finesse, and talent, even on sheet music.
