Donat' wax seals is a handwritten document in which the artist himself confirms the authenticity of the work ('Je soussigné déclare que le tableau ci-contre est peint par moi'). Merchie Donat was a painter from Ename who made a name for himself at the Ghent triennial art salons with his characteristic small-format works.
