Suzanne Thienpont (1905-2003): Still life with a jug, 'Espace tactile' & Untitled, oil and sand on canvas, paper and board, dated 1944 and 1978 Work: 61,5 x 34 cm Work: 53,5 x 46,5 cm Work: 29 x 21 cm Frame: 42 x 32 cm Suzanne Thienpont was a Belgian painter and one of the most important Belgian female representatives of modern art. She received her education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels as a student of Constant Montald and at the National Higher Institute for Architecture and Applied Arts in Ter Kameren as a student of Gustave Van de Woestyne. After her studies, she went to work as a cartoon designer for the artistic tapestry weaving factory of Elisabeth de Saedeleer, daughter of Valerius de Saedeleer, in Etikhove. Later she became a drawing teacher at the Atheneum of Oudenaarde and the Atheneum of Ronse. In the 1930s she mainly painted portraits and still lifes, drawn accurately and with light colours. She is therefore called the last painter of the Etikhoofse School, with Valerius de Saedeleer as the most famous painter.
