Leroy continued his training from 1881 to 1883 at the école des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his mentor, Alexandre Falguière, assigned him to work on the decoration of the Arc de Triomphe. Finally, a scholarship from the Darchis Foundation in Liège enabled him to study at the Academia Internazionale in Rome from 1886 to 1892 and to travel across Italy.
