Alfred Ost (1884-1945): The fountain of Neptune in Mechelen, washed ink drawing on paper, dated 2 December (19)11 Work: 33,5 x 24,5 cm Frame: 50,5 x 41,5 cm This fountain can still be seen today at the Veemarkt in Mechelen. The text poster at the bottom right of the fountain with the text 'Stad Mechelen - Bericht - Al de Mechelaren willen hallen en belfort bewaren!' (City of Mechelen - Message - All Mechelen residents want to preserve the halls and belfry!) is particularly interesting, since Ost played a strong role in the public debate regarding the restoration and new appearence of the halls (see: F. Brenders & B.ML., 'Het 'stadhuis' van Mechelen. Groei, verval en restauratie', in: M&L - Monumenten, Landschappen en Archeologie, VI, n°4, 1987, p. 18). The absence of a condition report does not imply that a lot is in perfect condition. Condition reports are provided on request.
