Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005): 'Aphasie', lithograph in colours, ed. 97/100, (1981) Work: ca. 67 x 50 cm Frame: 89 x 70,5 cm Folon created this lithograph at the time commissioned by the Belgian Aphasia Association VZW. The purpose of the artwork was to raise awareness of the language disorder aphasia and to support scientific research. Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage (for example, after a stroke or accident). People with aphasia have difficulty speaking, understanding, reading, or writing. Because Folon's art often visualizes the inner world of experience, isolation, and the complexity of human communication, his work aligns perfectly with the themes of a language disorder.
