F. Williams (20th C): 'Venereal disease covers the earth - Learn to protect yourself NOW', lithograph in colours, VD Graphic, dated (19)42 50 x 38 cm 'Venereal Disease Covers The Earth - Learn To Protect Yourself NOW' is a classic World War II public health poster issued around 1940-1942. It was designed to warn military servicemen about the global risks of sexually transmitted infections during wartime travel. The glamorous woman in the illustration, posing in a low-cut red dress, is set against a shadowed globe in the background. This poster might also be adopting the language of anti-communism and borrowing the color of the 'red menace'. The headline warns, "Venereal disease covers the earth", and the caption at the bottom reiterates the responsibility of the soldier in protecting himself.
