A museum quality and large French carved wooden and polychrome decorated crowned Madonna with Child, île de France, ca. 1340-1360 H 101,5 cm This probably walnut wooden group with the original remnants of the polychrome design displays the typical characteristics of the 'International Style'. The mother wears a long bodice and ceinture, over which is a cloak held together by a brooch (cristal de roche). The mother, like the child, has a typical 14th-C. smile: she is happy and joyful with her child. There is a clear interaction between mother and the child, who places his hand on his mother's chest.
