A polychrome decorated plaster 'Musica' figure (Sappho with a lyre), first half 20th C. H 64,5 cm Sappho (ca. 630 - ca. 570 BC) was a lyric poetess from ancient Greece. She wrote in the Aeolian dialect of Greek, primarily lyrical poetry, songs to be sung accompanied by the lyre. Her work is characterized by the refinement of warm emotions. In a style entirely her own, testifying to great originality, she sang of her own feminine world: intimate relationships with girls, music, festivities, love, and the experience of nature. She was able to express the 'deepest stirrings of her soul' very directly. The absence of a condition report does not imply that a lot is in perfect condition.
