Created in 1993, *Nerorosso* belongs to the mature phase of Carla Accardi’s career, in which, following her experiments with Sicofoil, she returned to working on canvas as a space for the interplay between mark, color, and surface. The raw canvas is not merely a background but plays an active role in the construction of the image, allowing the relationship between the red field and the black marks that traverse the composition to emerge. The chromatic contrast, devoid of any explicit symbolic intent, operates primarily on a perceptual level: the black sets the rhythm, while the red intensifies its visual presence.
