6 - AMBROSI ALFREDO GAURO (1901–1945) TURN ON THE LAKE. 1934. Oil on canvas. 50x80 cm. Signed and dated on the reverse: label and stamp from Galleria Berlanda, Milan. The work is archived at the Unified Archive for the Cataloging of Futurist Works, curated by Maurizio Scudiero.PROVENANCE: Ignazio Scurto Collection, Verona; Galleria Berlanda, Milan; Private collection, Brescia. Ambrosi, a native of Verona, was—along with Renato Di Bosso (Righetti) and Verossì (Albino Siviero)—one of the pillars of Veronese Futurism, a group founded in 1931. Then, when he met Gianni Caproni, a pioneer of Italian aviation, around 1934, Caproni became his long-time patron, eventually acquiring a large portion of his body of work, which is now housed at the Caproni Museum in Trento. As for the title, the painting belongs to a series that Ambrosi created to depict airplanes in flight over Lake Garda. The scene depicted in the painting appears to show a Caproni aircraft flying over the town of Peschiera. It is certainly an evocative work by this artist. (Maurizio Scudiero). Frame included
