71 - Pennant of the 3rd Company of the 158th Infantry Regiment, which took part in the attack on Bois du Bouc near Tahure in September 1918. White and blue silk pennant with gold thread embroidery, worn and frayed, framed with a 1914–1918 Croix de Guerre featuring two commendations. On the back of the frame is an envelope containing a business card belonging to Mr. Henri André, a railroad inspector and former quartermaster corporal in the 158th Infantry Regiment, with handwritten notes recounting the pennant’s history. While on leave, he was replaced by Corporal Le Pon, who fell on September 27 during the attack on the Bois du Bouc in the Marne region, near Tahure. Corporal Jean Joseph Marie Le Pon fell that day, and this pennant was found two days later among his remains in the German lines during the recovery of the bodies. Mr. Henri André explains that upon demobilization, when the company received a new pennant, this one was given to him because it was the oldest. This piece of history has been passed down to us through Mr. Bardiaux.
