Jean Cocteau (French, 1889-1963) Patineur sur Glace Brandissant un Poignard, 1931 India ink and pencil on tracing paper 12 5/8 x 9 5/8 in. (32.1 x 24.4 cm) Property from the Collection of Erik Padilla This lot is located in Chicago. Framed: 20 1/4 x 17 1/4 in. Sheet is affixed to backing board with 18 conservation tissue strips along all edges; creases throughout, mostly visible only under raking light, commensurate with age and fragile material; scattered instances of very small, minor losses to sheet edges; pinpoint to small brown spots scattered through sheet, likely a result of the fibers in the tracing. Lot Note: The present lot was executed by the artist in September-October 1931, during his stay at the Malartic Clinic in Toulon, where he was being treated for severe typhoid fever.
