GASTON SUISSE (1896–1988) Black Panther in the Bamboo, 1927 Woodcut on pearlescent Japanese paper—enhanced with Chinese ink washes by the artist. Presented in a modern frame with a Macassar ebony mold. Signed “G. SUISSE” in the lower left and dated 1927 in the lower right. Dimensions: 20.5 x 41.5 cm Note: In 1927, Gaston Suisse created a woodcut titled *Black Panther in the Bamboo*, from which he personally printed about twenty proofs on various grades of paper. These prints were not sold as-is; the artist reworked each print using Indian ink washes to achieve different effects for each one, thereby elevating them to the status of original works. Important: We thank Dominique Suisse, the artist’s son and heir, for confirming the authenticity of this work.
