Virgin and Child carved in the round from oak. Its proportions and the polychromy of the face are reminiscent of the Mechelen dolls, but the craftsmanship points to northern France, and more specifically Picardy. The straight folds of the drapery and the rendering of the eyes (heavy, almond-shaped eyelids) are reminiscent of works from Abbeville or Amiens. Picardy, circa 1500. Damage and losses; remnants of the original polychromy. H. 32 cm Expert: Thorvald DUBOC
