BALTRUCHAITIS (1873–1944): -In the first, he is standing facing the camera in summer attire; it is dated October 5, 1907, in Soulac, with the following inscription in Spanish: “My dear brother Yourguis, here I am not a ‘Furious Don,’ but rather a ‘Very Wise Don,’ a ‘Peaceful Don,’ and that is who I am. My soul sings, my heart loves, my thoughts are filled with the light of the stars; the Sun and the Moon are two spouses, in whose castle I am singing, living, and loving. We’re leaving here in five days (Paris, Passy, 17 Rue Singer). Is my friend sad? Take heart!” (+ 4 lines in Russian) -On the second, he is depicted in a three-quarter pose, seated and shown from the bust up, dated August 21, 1928, in Capbreton: “To my one and only brother in Poetry, - To my one and only brother in Poetry,—unmatched by anyone—in stern gentleness—the grain-filled ear of the Lithuanian and Russian fields.” MC Provenance -Jurgis Kasimirovich Baltruchaïtis (1873–1944), Lithuanian diplomat and poet. -Their son, Jurgis Jurgissovich Baltruchaïtis (1903–1988), historian. -His wife, Hélène Baltruchaïtis (1908–2004), née Castel-Focillon, daughter of Henri Focillon (1881–1943). -Then by descent.
