A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE ‘PEBBLE’ SNUFF BOTTLE 1720-1860 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of well hollowed, flattened, rounded-rectangular form with a cylindrical neck and recessed oval foot, the natural russet-coloured skin disposed across one face of the bottle, dictating its slightly irregular form Height: 6.2cm Provenance: Bernard J. Wald Collection (by repute) There was a wide series of nephrite bottles made during the mid-Qing period which combine the use of natural skin on at least one face of the bottle, with irregular faces combined with otherwise strictly symmetrical forms, a range of roughly rounded rectangular forms, excellent hollowing and often, although not always, small mouths. They are discussed in Moss, Graham, Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle, under no. 40. This is an unusually rounded example but still part of the core group Ω This Lot was imported from outside of the UK, under the Temporary Admission regime 5% import VAT will be charged on the ‘hammer” and 20% VAT will be charged on the ‘buyer’s premium
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
