A BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN ‘DRAGON PILLAR’ SNUFF BOTTLE IMPERIAL KILNS, JINGDEZHEN, 1770-1830 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of cylindrical form with a waisted neck, flat lip and concave circular foot, painted with a continuous design of a five-clawed, Imperial dragon chasing a flaming pearl against a crackled-glaze, the foot with a single splash of glaze, with cobalt beneath it, in the centre of a biscuit foot carved with concentric rings Height: 6cm Provenance: Jana Volf, New York, 1999 Hugh Moss (HK) Ltd, 27th October 2000, (a copy of the original invoice available) This is one of a series of ‘dragon pillar’ bottles which resemble the columns of Imperial palaces when they are wrapped around with dragon pillar-carpets. They are among the boldest of blue and white snuff bottles from the mid-Qing period, and date from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. This is an unusual example because of its size and the unique little blob of blue colouring in the centre of the biscuit foot Ω This Lot was imported from outside of the UK, under the Temporary Admission regime 5% import VAT will be charged on the ‘hammer” and 20% VAT will be charged on the ‘buyer’s premium
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
