A RARE ‘PASTEL-BLUE’ GLASS FACETED SNUFF BOTTLE POSSIBLY IMPERIAL, PERHAPS PALACE WORKSHOPS, 1730-1860 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of compressed spherical form, the narrow sides each with flattened facets, with a flared neck, flat lip and flat rectangular foot Height: 4.6cm Provenance: Fulika, Hong Kong, (October 1999) Hugh Moss (HK) Ltd, 11th May 2000, (a copy of the original invoice available) This colour of glass is rather rare and appears infrequently as a monochrome, and only occasionally as an overlay colour. The only clues to dating are somewhat contradictory in that as an overlay colour it appears on a group of late Qianlong and early-nineteenth century bottles of one school, attributable to the Palace, while one of the other rare monochrome examples is a multi-faceted double gourd which could be dated to the first half of the century, although it might have been made later. Intriguingly this bottle is also faceted, after a fashion, since the narrow sides have been cut with a flat facet after the bottle has been blown Ω This Lot was imported from outside of the UK, under the Temporary Admission regime 5% import VAT will be charged on the ‘hammer” and 20% VAT will be charged on the ‘buyer’s premium
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
