A RARE YIXING STONEWARE SNUFF BOTTLE GUO YUNSHAN, 1800-1850 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of compressed spherical form with a cylindrical neck and recessed, lozenge-shaped foot surrounded by a protruding, flared foot rim, each side with a convex circular central panel surrounded by a broad, concave cavetto which in turn is set against a flaring section on each side, resulting in narrow sides with a vertical raised rib; impressed with the seals of the artist, low on one narrow side, Guo Yunshan zizao (`Self-made by Guo Yunshan’) Height:6.5cm Provenance: A Private European Collector Sotheby’s, Hong Kong, Important Chinese Snuff Bottles, 28 April 1997, lot 60 Hugh Moss (HK) Ltd, 13th May 1997, (a copy of the original invoice available) For another plain Yixing bottle by this artist, and discussion, see Moss, Graham, Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle, no. 257.
