A YIXING ENAMELLED ‘LANDSCAPE’ SNUFF BOTTLE 1800-1860 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of compressed spherical form with a cylindrical neck, enamelled with a continuous scene of a scholar in a small boat in a lake, with various islands with pines and other foliage, one with a tall, elaborate gatehouse connected by a causeway to another two-story pagoda, with a distant range of mountains, the interior and the foot enamelled in white Height: 7.28cm Provenance: Hugh Moss (HK) Ltd, 16th April 2006, (a copy of the original invoice available) The scene here represents a summer idyll, with a scholar boating near a country temple or residence. While the enamelling and subject are standard for early-nineteenth century Yixing enamelled wares, the size of the bottle is not, with its unusually large expanse of ‘canvas’ for the enameller An almost identical bottle, with the same subject, was offered by Robert C.
