AN EMERALD-GREEN GLASS DOUBLE-GOURD SNUFF BOTTLE IMPERIAL, ATTRIBUTED TO THE PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, 1740-1850 To Be Sold Without Reserve Of double-gourd form with a waisted cylindrical neck, flat lip and flat, circular foot, the opaque glass with smoky trails running around the body Height: 5.3cm Provenance: Hugh Moss (HK) Ltd, 19th March 2007, (a copy of the original invoice available) The double gourd was a popular Imperial form throughout the eighteenth century, and appears in a range of different colours, although this distinctive milky emerald-green is unusual. It is likely that this dates from the mid-Qing period, although none of the construction-related tombs from which a range of glass bottles has been coming in recent years have been properly excavated as far as we know, so it is impossible to know the exact dates of the tombs Ω This Lot was imported from outside of the UK, under the Temporary Admission regime 5% import VAT will be charged on the ‘hammer” and 20% VAT will be charged on the ‘buyer’s premium
