Spanish School, 19th century. "Odalisque." Oil on canvas. With an illegible signature. Measurements: 46 x 61 cm. It depicts a reclining female figure (an odalisque) on a divan covered with rich fabrics, shawls, and cushions. The relaxed pose, with her arms wrapped around her head and gold adornments (bracelets and earrings), is characteristic of Orientalist depictions of the period. It features loose, lush brushwork with a marked Impressionist or Preciousist influence. Of particular note is the rich play of light in the folds of the white dress and in the greenish and pinkish reflections on the fabric hanging from the divan.
