Botanical blue-and-white plate with a pineapple motif. Export porcelain. China. 18th century. Approx. 23 cm in diameter. Porcelain. Blue-and-white painting with a "Pomet Botanik" motif. Qianlong period, 1736 - 1795. The center depicts a large pineapple growing out of foliage. Above it are branches of cloves and an elongated nutmeg. Geometric border around the rim. This unusual decoration is derived from illustrations published in Pierre Pomet’s *A Compleat History of Drugs* (London, 1712), which in turn were based on earlier drawings from the French edition *Histoire Générale des Drogues* (Paris, 1694). Pomet served as chief apothecary to Louis XIV of France. The combination of pineapple, cloves, and nutmeg is extremely rare on Chinese porcelain and reflects European interest in botanical illustrations and the spice trade in the 18th century. Signs of wear due to age. Slight abrasion in places. See photos for condition. Category: Asiatica
